The bony pelvis transmits weight of the body to the lower limb and it protects and supports the lower abdominal and pelvic viscera. Because it serves to connect the body with the limbs, there are many muscles that have one attachment on the pelvis and the other on the lower limb. Many of the large nerves transmitted to the lower limb form in the pelvis are transmitted to their targets via the pelvis. |
