Determinants of Left Ventricular Function:

Pressure-Volume Relations

You will complete 9 exercises, generally collecting data just as if you were performing experiments in an isolated heart laboratory. The first 6 exercises explore the determinants of heart function (preload, afterload, contractility, and heart rate) as viewed by pressure-volume relations. Exercises 7 and 8 are drug unknowns, and you must figure out what the drug actions are based on the data you collect. The final problem is a clinical case of heart failure. Be prepared to answer the questions during the followup session. Good Luck!
