Installers
Pharos software manages the print servers. The first step is to download the Pharos software installer to your laptop.

 jhmi Guest wireless network:

Windows Installers
Note to Vista users:
 Vista support is limited to the following Vista versions – Vista Business, Enterprise, Server Enterprise, Server Standard, Ultimate, Home Basic and Home Premium. 32 bit versions only

From the list below, select a printer to download the Pharos software installer
Macintosh installers
For Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 only
Due to the software requirements of our System, we do not support 10.3 and earlier for printing

Click the links below to download the Pharos software .dmg files. Download and install in the order indicated.

Popup Client
 The installer should start at download completion. This will install The Pharos Popup Client and configure the connection to our server

Notify Client
  1. Once the disk image is mounted, follow these steps:
  2. Double-click on the Notify.mpk installer package and select the default options.
  3. When this installer is done, the Notify Setup Assistant will launch.
  4. Enter in oacps.med.jhmi.edu for the server address and leave all other options at their default.
The purpose of this application is to display the number of pages remaining in your account
Printer Que (Macintosh)
For Mac OS X: Creating the Printer Que

To start using the OAC Printers you will need to add Popup printer queues on your machine:

For Mac OS X 10.4:
  • Open Printer Setup Utility in </Applications/Utilities/>.
  • Click the <Add> button in the toolbar, then hold down the <Option> key on the keyboard and click the <More Printers...> button.
  • From the topmost popup button, select <Advanced>. From the <Device> popup button, select <Pharos Print Server>
  • In the <Device Name> field, enter name of your choice for the new printer queue.
  • In the <URL> field, enter the following printer dependent information.


      To Use the larger Xerox with the paper handling features enter:
        popup://oacps.med.jhmi.edu/Xerox5500dx$

      To Use the smaller Xerox without the paper handling features enter:
        popup://oacps.med.jhmi.edu/Xerox5500dt$

      To use the Blalock 406 printer enter:
        popup://oacps.med.jhmi.edu/Blalock406$


      Do NOT remove the "popup://" part of the URL

  • From the <Printer Model> popup button, select the type of printer associated with the Popup queue. If the desired printer is not available, Please use the links below to download the appropriate printer driver.

    Here is what to enter for each of our printers

      For the larger Xerox Choose:
        Xerox Phaser 5500DX

      For the smaller Xerox Choose:
        Xerox Phaser 5500DT

      For the Blalock 406 Printer choose:
        HP LaserJet 4250 or HP LaserJet 4200 Series will also work

  • Click <Add>.
    The new Popup queue will now show up in the list of printers.
  • To print to the new queue, select it from the printer popup button in the print dialog of any application.

For Mac OS X 10.5:
  • Open System Preferences and click on <Print & Fax> icon.
  • Click the <+> button
  • Hold down the <Control> key on the keyboard and click anywhere in the toolbar of the window that appears. From the popup menu that appears select <Customize Toolbar...>.
  • Drag the <Advanced> button to the toolbar and close the customization dialog by clicking Done
  • Click on the <Advanced> button in the toolbar. It may take up to 30 seconds for the fileds to be automatically filled in.
  • From the <Type> popup button, select <Pharos Print Server>
  • In the <URL> field, enter the following printer dependent information.

      To Use the larger Xerox with the paper handling features enter:
        popup://oacps.med.jhmi.edu/Xerox5500dx$

      To Use the smaller Xerox without the paper handling features enter:
        popup://oacps.med.jhmi.edu/Xerox5500dt$

      To use the Blalock 406 printer enter:
        popup://oacps.med.jhmi.edu/Blalock406$

  • In the <Name> field, enter a name of your choice for the new printer queue.
